WEATHERING:

THE ENDURANCE OF THE ORDINARY

Phaeton Gallery is pleased to present Weathering | The Endurance of the Ordinary, a group exhibition on view May 1 through May 31, 2026. Bringing together a dynamic group of women artists, the exhibition explores the quiet resilience embedded in daily life and the subtle ways time and environment shape both objects and human experience.

Weathering is at once a physical process and a powerful metaphor. To weather is to endure exposure—to be altered by time, circumstance, and the elements—and to carry forward the visible and invisible marks of that passage. This exhibition reflects on fragility and strength, transience and persistence, inviting viewers to consider how change itself becomes a record of living.

At the heart of the project is a simple yet evocative structure: a clothesline installed outdoors for a full year. Garments and linens hang exposed to sun, rain, wind, and seasonal shifts, gradually transformed by the elements. Each piece becomes a living archive—an evolving document of endurance, vulnerability, and quiet beauty.

The exhibition features artists working across a range of media, including collage, mixed media, textile, video, wood, found objects, oil, and acrylic. Participating artists include Charlottesville-based Sarah Trundle, Somé Louis, Mary Lamb, Donna Ernest, Krista Townsend, Laura Wooten, Jennifer Esser, Suzanne Keith Loechl, Lindsey Luna Tucker, along with Peg Shaw of Chicago.

Together, these artists reflect on the ordinary as a site of meaning—where daily rituals, materials, and moments bear witness to time’s passage. Through their work, Weathering invites viewers to slow down, to look closely, and to find resonance in the subtle transformations that shape both objects and lives.
