Hannah Hanlon

ABOUT HANNAH HANLON

Originally from Massachusetts, Boston University College of Fine Arts graduate Hanlon relocated to Atlanta in 2006 for graduate studies in design at Portfolio Center.

In 2019, after working in design, Hanlon began drawing again. In 2020 she debuted at Spalding Nix Fine Art in a solo show with a series of cross-hatched extra fine India ink aquatic creature drawings and a grid of 25 photorealistic colored pencil drawings of beetles.

In her most recent body of work, Hanlon uses colored pencil to explore Southeastern flora and fauna. Through her drawings Hanlon encourages the viewer to consider the biodiversity and beauty of one’s own backyard. Using collected plant specimens, pinned insects, and her own video stills/photography as visual reference, Hanlon draws upon her design background to create unlikely moments driven by color, dynamic composition, and detail to celebrate the beauty and wonder of familiar species.
