Expanding Scale: Mastering the Large-Format Canvas with Lindsey Luna Tucker

Description:

Step beyond the limits of the easel and into the expansive possibilities of painting. In this immersive workshop, Lindsey Luna Tucker guides experienced painters through the process of translating their ideas, drawings, and visual language onto an oversized canvas ( 48 x 60 or larger).

Working on canvas mounted to gator board (provided), participants will explore how scale transforms composition, gesture, and decision-making. Lindsey will focus on strategies for enlarging drawings, maintaining structural integrity, and embracing the physicality of painting at a larger size. Expect to work with broader movements, simplified forms, and a heightened awareness of proportion, rhythm, and spatial relationships.

Each artist will have their own dedicated studio setup within the Portaferry barn, allowing for sustained focus and the opportunity to live with and respond to the work over the course of three days. A materials list will be provided in advance, including larger brushes suited to this format.

This workshop is ideal for painters ready to push their practice forward—expanding not only their scale, but their confidence and creative reach.

Dates: May 12 – May 14

Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
